Emergency Preparedness Guide

Signs of Emergency

  • Difficulty breathing, choking, or gagging
  • Profuse bleeding that won't stop
  • Seizures or loss of consciousness
  • Inability to stand or walk
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea (especially with blood)
  • Bloated, hard abdomen (possible GDV)
  • Eye injuries or sudden blindness
  • Suspected poisoning (bring packaging)
  • Difficulty giving birth
  • Trauma (hit by car, fall, animal attack)

First Aid Tips

  • Stay calm — your pet needs you
  • Call us immediately so we can prepare
  • Keep your pet warm and still
  • For bleeding: apply gentle pressure with clean cloth
  • For choking: carefully check mouth for objects
  • Do NOT give human medications (ibuprofen, acetaminophen are toxic)
  • Do NOT induce vomiting unless told to by a vet
  • Transport in a secure carrier or on a flat surface
  • Bring any suspected toxin packaging
  • Note the time symptoms started
